A control panel for WordPress hosting, and what it does not do yet.
WordPress is the site most hosting accounts run. RespireCloud protects and isolates it well. It does not yet have a WordPress toolkit for staging, cloning and updates, and this page says so before you plan around it.
What is there for WordPress today.
-
A PHP site like any other
WordPress runs as a PHP site on nginx with a PHP-FPM pool for the account's own Linux user, in its own resource slice, with the PHP version you choose.
-
A firewall per site
A web application firewall (Coraza with the OWASP Core Rule Set) per site: off, detect or block, with exceptions made from a blocked request and a kill switch. It adds about 12 ms at the 95th percentile.
-
Malware scanning
ClamAV and YARA scanning with quarantine.
-
Limits on abuse
Per site rate limit presets, security headers, a proof of work bot challenge that needs no third party, and hotlink protection.
-
Certificates and mail
Automatic HTTPS for every site, and mail with DKIM, SPF and DMARC published for you.
-
Backups and restores
Per account encrypted backups. A database restore goes to a new database by default, so you can compare it before you swap.
-
A WordPress container
The catalogue also has a WordPress container app. It is a starter: it runs with a half CPU limit.
How it measured.
From the load test of 19 October 2026 (the full method is on the performance page).
-
Native PHP site
About 300 requests a second of a PHP page that writes a row to MariaDB (replication was switched on), on a 4 vCPU server with the default pool of 10 workers. An earlier run without replication reached about 590. Nothing failed up to 1000 visitors, but at 1000 the page took 4.5 s at the 95th percentile.
-
WordPress container
About 7 requests a second of an uncached home page, with the container limited to half a CPU. The server itself was mostly idle: the limit is the container's quota, and a page cache was not used. Treat the container as a way to try WordPress, not to run a busy shop.
What RespireCloud does not have yet.
Read this before you plan.
-
No WordPress toolkit
Staging, cloning, updates and hardening for WordPress are not built. They are listed as not built on the hosting feature page.
-
No page cache measured
The numbers above are for pages without a page cache or object cache.
-
No price yet
Prices are not set. A licence counts hosting accounts, resellers, servers and CDN edges, and there is a free 14 day trial. See the pricing page for what is decided.
-
A public release
RespireCloud is in early access. There is no public download, the production signing keys are not made and prices are not set. One install has run on a real server; everything else ran in our lab.
-
Proof on real backups
The importers have run end to end only on archives we built to match each format. A backup taken from a production server has not been imported yet, so expect differences.
-
A second web server
Sites are served by nginx. Apache .htaccess rules, PHP ini overrides and redirects are not translated by the importer: a site that depends on them needs its rules rewritten.
-
Recovery to a moment
A database restore goes back to the time of a scheduled dump. Recovery to a chosen moment between backups is not built. The database tool (Adminer) is built; it covers MariaDB, MySQL and PostgreSQL on the server itself.
-
An independent security test
An external penetration test has not started.
Questions
- Does RespireCloud have a WordPress toolkit?
- Not yet. Staging, cloning and updates are on the list of what is not built.
- Is WordPress safe to host on it?
- Each site is isolated in its own account and slice, and can sit behind the firewall and the malware scanner. No panel can make an out of date plugin safe.
- Can I move WordPress from cPanel?
- Yes, with the cpmove importer, which brings the site's files, its database and users, mailboxes and DNS. Apache .htaccess rules are not translated, so a site that depends on them needs its rules rewritten for nginx.
- Which PHP versions can I pick?
- Versions come from the distribution or a pinned third party repository, and are managed from the software page, per site.
