Licence tiers
DirectAdmin's plans differ by account count. Personal PLUS is $5 a month for 2 accounts and 20 domains with self installation. Lite is $15 for 10 accounts and 50 domains, and Standard is $29 for unlimited accounts and domains. The page also lists bulk discounts of 15 percent after four Standard licences, rising to 40 percent at thirty five, paid from prepaid balance.
Plesk's store page lists three VPS editions by domain count: Web Admin (10 domains), Web Pro (30) and Web Host (unlimited). The page also shows an older set of lower prices and does not clearly say which is current, so treat the figures above as a snapshot and check your own cart. It states that from 1 January 2026 a revised pricing structure applies to renewals. Plans can be monthly or yearly, with a yearly saving of 8 percent, and direct purchases have a 14 day refund window.
Operating systems and footprint
This is the sharpest difference. Plesk supports Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2025 and a long Linux list that includes Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, CloudLinux, Red Hat and Rocky Linux. If you host ASP.NET or other Windows workloads, Plesk is the only one of the two that fits. DirectAdmin runs only on Linux, namely Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS Stream, Rocky, AlmaLinux, Debian and Ubuntu, on x86_64 or arm64.
WordPress and extras
Plesk includes WordPress Toolkit: one click installs, cloning and staging, bulk updates, a security scanner, WP-CLI access and Smart Updates, which test updates on a clone first. The SE version comes with Web Admin and the full toolkit with Web Pro and Web Host. DirectAdmin documents a plugin system and an API, but we found no matching built in WordPress manager on its pages.
Mail, resellers and migration
Both include mail, DNS, databases and reseller features. We did not verify mail stack details for either, so test the spam filtering, quotas and webmail you need on a trial. Switching between them follows the pattern in moving from cPanel without downtime: restore one account, compare, then plan the rest.
Which one should you pick
- Windows hosting or ASP.NET sites: Plesk.
- Many WordPress sites you want managed from one screen: Plesk with its Pro or Host edition.
- Lowest cost on Linux, or old small servers with unlimited accounts: DirectAdmin Standard, though check its memory minimum.
- Reseller with many small accounts: DirectAdmin's flat tiers are easier to predict; see flat per server pricing versus per account.
- Comparing against cPanel too: read Plesk vs cPanel and DirectAdmin vs cPanel.
Where RespireCloud fits
RespireCloud is a Linux panel with a flat price per server and a free edition for one account. It does not run on Windows and its ecosystem is smaller. Side by sides are at Plesk compared and DirectAdmin compared.
Questions
Is DirectAdmin cheaper than Plesk?
On the vendors' pages read on 30 October 2026, yes. DirectAdmin's unlimited plan is $29 a month, while Plesk's unlimited domain Web Host Edition shows 31.38 euros a month. Plesk also notes a revised pricing structure for renewals from 1 January 2026, so confirm your own quote.
Does DirectAdmin run on Windows?
No. Its installation page lists Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS Stream, Rocky Linux, AlmaLinux, Debian and Ubuntu. Plesk supports Windows Server 2016 to 2025 as well as Linux.
Which has the better WordPress tools?
Plesk, on what the vendors publish. WordPress Toolkit clones, stages, updates and secures sites, and Smart Updates tests updates on a clone first. DirectAdmin documents plugins, but we found no equal built in manager.
Which needs less server memory?
DirectAdmin's page asks for 4 GB of memory plus 4 GB of swap, while Plesk lists 1 GB plus 1 GB of swap on Linux. These are minimum figures, so real needs depend on the services you run.
Can I move from Plesk to DirectAdmin?
Both have migration tools, but you should test one small account first and check mail, DNS and cron jobs. Our guide on moving between panels lists the checks that matter.
